Officials

At Smarties Racing we’re fully aware that motorsport can’t happen without officials.  Some people become an official because they can’t afford to race, some because they love to be near the action, and some share officiating with driving duties.  Whatever your motivation for becoming an official we’d love to support you.

Most events struggle to get enough trackside marshals (with the exception of Formula 1 and some Supercars events).  If you share Michelle and Michael’s passion for historic motorsport, why not consider volunteering?

Knowing how to get into motorsport is often the hardest part; despite a life-long love of motorsport Michael never knew it was something he could do, let alone how to get involved, until his mid-40s.  At Smarties Racing we don’t want to see others realise they’ve missed so much of something they love, so we actively work to help people get involved.

Below we’ve got some detail about how to become an official, but more than that we’d love for you to reach out so we can help you get trackside and find a role that you’ll love.

Due to our involvement in so many aspects of motorsport we sometimes get asked to help source marshals for events.  To help us find people who will not only be good for the event but will enjoy their time trackside we’ve started compiling a database of marshals.

Smarties Racing has worked with or alongside people from a number of volunteer marshalling organisations.  If you’re not sure how to find events or want to meet like minded people check out some of these organisations.
