Both Michelle and Michael attended Eddington Sprints – Michelle as a competitor and Michael as an official.

Michelle successfully completed the practice run and the 3 competitive runs, along with 5 other Austin 7s.  Unfortunately some of the Austin 7s didn’t see out the day with early retirements.  Additionally, the 4 Austin 7s that were from between 1927 and 1930 were in class 3, whilst Michelle and another Austin 7 (both built in the ’30s) were in class 5 with other more powerful cars.

Michael reminded the Bendigo Car Club crew that he’s really bad at spectating and was rewarded with the task of Marshalling cars at the start line.  The key parts of this role were to keep the cars in the correct running order, ensure drivers were wearing their helmet (including doing up the chin strap) and long sleeves, and make sure there weren’t any loose items in the cockpit/cabin.

As a side note, Michelle’s father-in-law (Michael’s father) came up to support Michelle and brought one of his friends with him.  Although neither had previously been to Eddington Sprints, they are both car mad and had a great day looking at cars they remember from different stages of their lives.
