HQ Racing Australia

HQ Racing Australia is the parent organisation for HQ racing bodies in each state.

The HQ racing category started in Tasmania in 1988 by ex-racers and others who were put off by the costs of racing. The class has always been designed to be both affordable and exciting.

The category has strict regulations to ensure that cars are equally competitive, with authorised engine, gearbox and differential sealers in each state helping to ensure no unauthorised modifications are made. Each car must be a four door Holden HQ Sedan with the 3.3 litre 6 cylinder engine and modifications are strictly limited.

With the gradual increase in value of the cars minimum standards for presentation have been enacted, as have strict driving standards. This has been done to ensure the cost of racing is kept relatively low and to preserve the cars that are still actively raced.
