Supercars (formerly the Australian Touring Car Championship) is the premier motorsport category in Australia. The category runs throughout Australia and New Zealand, but in the past has held races in South-East Asia and the United Arab Emirates.
Today, Supercars use purpose built vehicles with bodywork to mimic their road-going counterparts, but prior to 2013 the cars were based on cars that were publicly available (albeit with significant modifications). The most famous race on the calendar is the Bathurst 1000 (originally titled the Armstrong 500), which has been running since 1960, although it wasn’t held at Bathurst until 1963.
The Supercars events are supported by the Super2 Series, Porsche Carrera Cup, Toyota GR Cup, SuperUtes, Touring Car Masters and Aussie Racing Cars.
