Michael attended all 4 days of the VHRR Festival of Speed at Winton Motor Raceway as a communicator and scribe in race control. His task was to handle all communications between flag points and race control and to ensure appropriate logs were kept. Also in race control was a communicator for the emergency channel and one for the race control channel (starter, pit lane etc).
Thursday was run as a Test ‘n’ Tune day with attendees loosely grouped into similar cars and sessions run throughout the day to allow them to get some practice and tune their cars. The remaining days were a combination of practice, qualifying, sprints and racing. A few incidents occurred over the weekend, but thankfully none resulted in injuries. One of the most spectacular was a mini sliding sideways into turn 10 and just as it seemed like the driver had got away with it the car dug in and rolled.
Overall the Festival of Speed was a fantastic weekend.
