Michael spent three days in race control, primarily as the scribe for the observer (flag marshal) radios, but also operating the radio as the situation required. As scribe, Michael’s primary role was to record all incidents and radio communications; coupled with this he also had to complete paperwork to request scrutineers observe vehicles with potential issues as well as tow requests relayed from flag posts.
The Friday practice sessions ran smoothly until the final session when a 5L touring car impacted the wall and ruptured its fuel tank. This required a significant clean-up and brought the final session to an early close.
Saturday saw a relatively minor incident in the Group C&A class, but a wall was damaged and the repair delayed proceedings. To make up for lost time the second event for the Group C&A cars was cancelled.
Sunday’s races were also paused in the Group C&A class when a car impacted the wall at the start of the race. This required extensive repairs to the wall, but thankfully nobody was hurt and the two remaining races were able to be run.
